AT&T apologises for email about ending support for 3G phones

AT&T has apologised for issuing an electronic mail warning prospects their 3G telephones will cease working.

According to Statista, around 80 percent of connections in North America at the moment are 4G. With the variety of 3G connections being ebbed away by 4G and even 5G, it is smart that AT&T is considering when to modify off its legacy community.

Here’s the e-mail despatched by AT&T to its 3G prospects:

Naturally, the e-mail had prospects involved their telephones had been about to cease working.

The drawback is the e-mail itself doesn’t give a selected date for the 3G shut-off, making it appear imminent. AT&T presently doesn’t plan on switching off its 3G community till February 2022 (a reality the e-mail does spotlight for those who click on the “learn more”)

“Once we do [switch off our legacy network], 3G devices and 4G wireless devices that don’t support HD Voice will no longer work on our network,” the web page says.

An AT&T spokesperson supplied the next assertion:

“This email was one of many planned to keep customers informed about the shutdown of our 3G network in early 2022. It should have included the date that certain devices would no longer be supported. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and will be more clear in future updates.”

Of course, some customers have expressed skepticism over the e-mail being a gaff and imagine it was a tactic to strain extra folks into upgrading their gadgets earlier.

One buyer commented: “It’s pretty tone-deaf to urge people to buy a new phone during an economic crisis.”

We can solely hope it was a real mistake.
