Oppo Reportedly Hires MediaTek and Unisoc Engineers for Its Own Chip
Oppo is long-rumored to be engaged on an in-house chip to compete towards the likes of Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung’s Exynos, and Huawei’s Kirin. Now, the Chinese tech big has reportedly employed a number of high executives from MediaTek and Unisoc.

According to Nikkei Asian Review, Oppo has just lately employed MediaTek’s former co-chief working officer Jeffery Ju and a former Xiaomi govt. Another govt engaged on MediaTek’s 5G chips is alleged to affix Oppo in a few months. In addition, Oppo is eyeing to rent senior abilities in Qualcomm and Huawei as effectively.

“Oppo has been aggressively recruiting chip talent since last year as they realized that owning the chip design capability will give it more control over its supply chain,” a supply advised Nikkei. “Developing chips, however, could mean burning a lot of money, and even if they have hired a group of experienced professionals, such efforts take years to mature.”

In response, Oppo advised Nikkei that it “already has chip-related capability” and that “any R&D investment is to strengthen its product competitiveness and user experience”.

Nikkei factors out that Oppo’s efforts to give you its personal chipset is a component of a bigger “de-Americanization” marketing campaign aimed to scale back the corporate’s dependency on US-based suppliers.
