Sega announces Virtua Fighter esports project

Sega introduced a brand new Virtua Fighter venture throughout a Tokyo Game Show livestream on Friday, however the nature of that venture isn’t but clear. Sega’s calling it “Virtua Fighter x esports.”

What is evident is that Sega didn’t explicitly announce a brand new Virtua Fighter sport (i.e. Virtua Fighter 6). On the project’s official website, Sega says Virtua Fighter “will be restarted as an esports title to commemorate the 60th anniversary of SEGA’s establishment.” A teaser video exhibits principally footage of Virtua Fighter preventing sport tournaments and ends with a shot of Akira Yuki, the face of the preventing franchise.

What does appear evident is that Sega is specializing in the aggressive angle for its new Virtua Fighter venture, a la Puyo Puyo eSports (aka Puyo Puyo Champions), its tournament-focused puzzle sport. We’ve reached out to Sega for extra particulars concerning the Virtua Fighter x esports announcement and can replace this story with any new particulars.

The most up-to-date entry within the preventing sport franchise, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, was launched in arcades in 2010, and ported to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is playable within the digital arcades of a number of video games in Sega’s Yakuza collection.
